1°) je poursuis l’intégration du chapitre 11 au chapitre 3. Le plan suivant est pour le moment adopté :
a) Le tavernier s’étend sur ses passages aux toilettes (3.21)
b) Il parle des plaisirs inavouables concernant deux filles (3.22). On ne sait pas s’il fantasme ou s’il parle d’actes réels. Un client est scandalisé et le traite d’ « hérétique ». J’en profite pour placer l’homophonie imparfaite « herpétique » (herpès est évoqué en 391.26).
Pour rappel dans FGW les DEUX filles parlent toujours d’Issy et de son reflet dans le miroir. Les désirs, ici relatés sont donc de nature incestueuse .(358.08 insectarian).
c) le chapitre suivant (360.23) joue d’ambiguités : ces filles sont-elles des proprettes jeunettes, des rossignols ou des coquines. Par souci de simplification, j’utilise ici la FDV (first draft version, 1963, Hayman editor) de Finnegans wake.
d) s’en suivent des bavardages des clients (à partir de 360.17).

2°) en parallèle, je mets en place l’incrustation du chapitre 11 dans le chapitre 1. Je m’occupe d’abord de la deuxième blague que le tavernier raconte aux clients. Elle prend la forme d’un dialogue entre Taff et Butt joués l’un et l’autre par le tavernier. Là aussi le texte est beaucoup trop long pour une mise en image dynamique. J’opte donc pour la FDV, qui me permet de reprendre la mise en bulle du dialogue entre Jutt et Mutt (1.39).
Puisque Finnegans wake est un long rêve, je considère le premier brouillon (FDV) comme le contenu manifeste de ce rêve.

3°) Je reprends les pages 1.10 et 1.11 qui montraient comment le bruit de la ville dérange et les écrivains et les types sur les échelles. Il n’y avait pas d’onomatopées. J’en mets !

a) The tavern keeper elaborates on his trips to the restroom (3.21).

b) He speaks of unspeakable pleasures concerning two girls (3.22). It is unclear whether he is fantasizing or referring to actual acts. A customer is scandalized and calls him a « heretic. » I am taking this opportunity to insert the imperfect homophony « herpétique » (herpes is mentioned in 391.26).

As a reminder, in FGW, the two girls always talk about Issy and her reflection in the mirror. The desires described here are therefore incestuous in nature (358.08 insectarian).

c) The following chapter (360.23) plays on ambiguities: are these girls prim and proper young things, innocent young things, or mischievous ones? For the sake of simplicity, I’m using the first draft version (FDV, 1963, Hayman editor) of Finnegans Wake here.

d) This is followed by the customers’ chatter (starting at 360.17).

2) In parallel, I’m implementing the integration of Chapter 11 into Chapter 1. I’m starting with the second joke the tavern keeper tells the customers. It takes the form of a dialogue between Taff and Butt, both played by the tavern keeper. Here again, the text is far too long for dynamic visualization. So I’m opting for the first draft version, which allows me to reuse the speech bubble format for the dialogue between Jutt and Mutt (1.39).

Since Finnegans Wake is a long dream, I consider the first draft (FDV) to be the manifest content of this dream.

3) I’m referring back to pages 1.10 and 1.11, which showed how the noise of the city disturbs both the writers and the men on the ladders. There were no onomatopoeias. I’m adding some!
